Dear Parents and Students,
I am very
excited to be embarking on this journey
through social studies with you. It is
important to me that everyone gets the most
out of our lessons; therefore, if there is
ever an assignment or content that needs
clarification, I can be reached by leaving a
letter in my box in the office or at
jmoss3@schools.nyc.gov.
As my time with
the students is limited, other primary and
secondary sources are encouraged for a more
detailed explanation and further
understanding of class discussions. Homework
will be a meaningful extension of current
material.
I have been an
active participant since 2006 of the
Teaching American History Grant. This
professional development workshop is devoted
to the creation of lesson plans throughout
the district. We also are continually
updating new ways to effectively implement a
variety of materials in the teaching of
social studies.
My assignments
are inference-based and ask students to
demonstrate their knowledge of social
studies through various outlets, such as
creative writing, detailed illustrations,
and persuasive language.
I look forward
to enjoying the rich responses to our
explorations.
Sincerely,
Mr. Moss
