All About me

Our "All About Me" unit is focusing on our bodies and names. This study produced a class book about our hands as well as letter recognition name books.

We have counted by "ones and twos" as well as decorated and discussed the functions of our feet, hands, and eyes. We came up with the positive and negative uses for our hands and created a 3D foot graph by using our own shoes. We graphed our eye color and listened and guesses sound including our own voices. The listening and nature walk we went on initiated discussion about how the seasons influence sights and sounds.

We found that more Pre-K kids wear shoes with Velcro than laces or buckles

What's In a Name?

Name books were created by each child to reinforce the letters in their names. Using our names, we are continuing to learn individual letter sounds and shapes through singing, chanting, and tracing. the children baked initial biscuits and choreographed a dance using their initials.

Although we study letters thematically, we also focus on letters individually through poetry, music, projects and body movements. We counted and graphed the letters in our names. We learned that in our class, most children have five letters in their names.

An Apple a Day

Our "Apple Unit" includes tasting apples, graphing our favorites and counting a flannel board variety of apples. We will make apple prints and craft our own apple counting books. Recipes will include mini apple pies and apple smiles.

Colors are Everywhere

We were all seeing red on September 25th. No, we weren't angry. It was RED day! All pre-K friend shared their red attire on red items from home. We even learned that our friend Kaya Kirmizi's last name means red in Turkish! We danced to the      R-E-D song and talked about items that can be red.

We are in the process of creating a book including each color we study. The calendar for color days is as follows:
