I was so fortunate
to find out about the opportunity to join the book
club. It has been an enormous motivation in my
life, as well as a joyous bonding factor for many
of us. I am so pleased that the initiative was
taken to organize something like this, as today's
society, I think, is in desperate need of more
social bonding where all differences are put aside
and peaceful, inspirational conversations can be
conducted. Reading is another factor that adds to
the beauty of the club because, as many of us know
it, today's society is becoming more "busy" and
more impatient, turning to quick action (as in
movies and football). As Ursula K. Le Guin states
in her article, "Staying Awake," on the decline of
reading, "Reading is not 'interactive,' with a set
of rules or options, as games are; reading is
actual collaboration with the writer's mind." It
is that collaboration that develops our minds and
our patience to understand others, and that is
precisely what this book club helps and inspires
us to do; most importantly, together. I would wish
for all of my friends, my kids, and many more
parents to have the same opportunity to allow
ourselves to unite for good and relaxing purposes
and create time for things that matter. Mubera

I'm really enjoying the interaction with other
parents from such
varied backgrounds - just like our school's
student body. It's great
to discover new books, and to discuss them in
depth, informally,
around a table. It's almost like being in a
college seminar all over
again, but without all the work and pressure! And
it's always nice to
hear another person's very different perspective
on the same passage,
chapter or character. Rachelle parent of
