Reading Workshop/Independent Reading Projects

• Readers chart what real readers do in the real world

• Readers look at the collection of books of a particular author

• Readers understand the social aspect of reading

• Readers chart options for possible independent reading projects

• Readers outline a proposal for independent reading project

• Readers organize information by using index cards for each book

 

Writing Workshop/Poetry

• Writers find patterns & repetition in poems & songs

• Writers choose a topic in nature & write several haikus

• Writers write several metaphors & write a poem around them

• Writers choose 1 of their poems to rewrite in a different way

• Writers will draft their poems in a draft booklet & illustrate

• Partners trade draft booklets & make “gentle” suggestions using post its

Units to be studied:

• Learn to graph reflections on a coordinate plane

• Learn to graph rotations

• Learn to solve problems by working backwards

• Learn to solve problems by choosing the best method of computation

• Learn to create tessellations using pattern blocks

• Create a full page tessellation using translated shapes to make an animal or design Game Day

• Game Day

 

Units to be studied:

• How are living things classified

• What’s the structure of a cell

• How & why do we use a microscope?

 

 

 

Topics to be discussed:

• They will be reading and responding to a book called “The Wave”

• Vocabulary – Nazism, peer pressure, inclusion, exclusion
