Reading Workshop

• Readers brainstorm a list of social issues that authors write about

• Readers question the stereotypes of characters in their books by creating a character web

• Readers examine their characters, behaviors to learn more about them

• Readers make text to self connections with their books

• Readers carry their thoughts and theories from one book to the next

• Readers work on helping a character solve his/her problem

 

Writing w/Independence: Preparing for the ELA Exam

• Writers reflect on the expectations of the ELA responses by examining the NYS writing rubric

• Writers improve their inferencing skills by using prompts & summaries to support their thinking

• Writers learn to quickly outline their extended responses by using a planning page

• Writers self assess their essays by comparing them against the NYS rubric & making revisions
