Nonfiction Reading : Reading to Become Experts and Share Passions!
  • Readers choose a topic to research by thinking about what they are interested in
  • Readers warm up their minds before they read a nonfiction text by taking a picture walk
  • Readers make sense of their reading by asking' what is the author trying to teach me?
  • Readers have conversations about nonfiction books by asking ‘why do you think that?
 

Expert Projects: Writing to Learn & to Teach a Topic of Personal Expertise

  • Writers teach with their writing by thinking about the people, the places and the things they love

  • Writers make their ideas clearer by adding more words to they chapter titles

  • Writers shock their readers by saying ‘You may think…, but really..!”

The following topics will be discussed:

  • To identify coin combinations equal to $1

  • To add and subtract money amounts

  • To choose the best strategy to solve a problem

  • To estimate temperature and read a thermometer

  • To measure time to the hour and half hour

  • to tell time to the quarter hour

  • Game Day

  The topics to be discussed:
  • How can people harm natural resources?
  • How can people protect our natural resources?
